~ramtev-wisbyt's kiln(?) is stuck in this state what seems like permanently
because I typoed a sync - is there a known workaround?

I don't know of one, unfortunately. I'd hack it with an updated
lib/kiln.hoon -- plenty of ways to change this state. Also, it should
be filed as a bug.

There is a command to cancel a pending merge. I think it's |cancel, but I
forget if it takes just a local desk or local desk plus foreign urbit plus
plus foreign desk.

Presumably if you just run +hood-cancel, there will be an at least slightly
informative type error
